THE ROAD TO REVOLUTION...PART 1

Howdy!  We have been studying the Enlightenment and the Scientific Revolution...(and don't worry, I am going to make sure you are all experts on both before we are through with this unit!!)..for this blog assignment..I want you to watch the following "videos" on the Causes of the American Revolution and the Declaration of Independence...

We have talked about how the ideas that were inspired by the Scientific Revolution and the Enlightenment led to great changes throughout the world.  After watching these two video clips, I want you to write a paragraph (in YOUR own words) detailing how the philosophies of the Enlightenment thinkers influenced the founding of our country...include in your paragraph as many examples of the Enlightenment "major players" as you can!  After you have posted your paragraph...please read comments made by other classmates and respond to their post...please be accurate, creative, and ORIGINAL!!!  Good Luck!

Have a great night!

  1. the enlightenment thinkers changes the whole thinking of the european area, by questioning the traditional thinking, and traditional rule... the way they shaped our world today, was: their thinking spread quickly throughout europe, and made people question... "why does one person get absolute rule?" with this thinking, they realized that one person ruling however they wanted without questioning, was not in the best interest for the people, but instead only bennifitted the king.
also with this enlightenment thinking, it caused a revolt, and eventually a revolution, that started America as we know it today.
without enlightenment thinking, we, the people would have never had:
a voice and say in the govt, the freedoms that we do today, and most important, the right to question our leader without having our heads cut off...

  2. I think that the enlightenment thinkers helped in the founding of our country because there the ones who started questioning the religious leaders and actually saying what thought out loud. And our country was founded because some people didnt like not having the right to worship the gods that the wanted to so they moved to america seeking this freedom. so the enlightenment thinkers had a great role in the founding the country.

  3. The effects of the enlightment caused people in europe to question authority. They would speak, write, or do whatever they needed to to spread this idea. The people who were to become colonists had probably heard or read these philosophies. When Europe placed taxes on the colonies, and ridiculous laws on the colonies, the colonies pulled from these ideas. Thomas Jefferson wrote "all men are created equal". He took this quote from a philosopher durring the enlightment. He later rewrote the quote and included it into the declaration of independence, which was pretty heavily related to the American revolution.

  4. The enlightenment thinkers gave a new outlook on life and diversified in the knowledge of new ideas and inventions towards the Europeans. Beginning to question religious views and just speaking what was on there mind (As during that time could have been deadly)led to the voyage to America for some. Expanding their ideas all around the worldd.dddd.d.d.d.d.

  5. ENlightenment is the effect of enlighting some person to change there mind ona subject. Many people use enlightment to change peoples mind for thier own benifits. Otherwise enlightment would be useless.
Europe enlightened people to move across the ocean to see if the world ended. They found out that the world is completely round. From being enlightened they found the 13 colonies and that started the US.

  6. The enlightenment caused peole to question the power or authority. It taught people to rebbel. Thomas Jefferson based some of the main ideas of the Declaration of Independence because of enlightenment philosophers. The Enlightenment later led to Montesqieu to create the seperation of pwers. 7. Enlightenment thinking caused people in America to question the King of England and it made them realize that they deserve freedom. Because of all the questioning towards the king, the American Revolution started. And because we won that and Thomas Jefferson wrote the Declaration of Independence, we have the America that we do now.
