  1. Contributions of these civilizations to society:

The Minoans invented their own script, at least as far as we know. They were at first hieroglyphics, before being simplified into syllabric letters, each symbol representing a sound. This written system was used by three civilizations since, and influenced other societies to create their own.

As for architectural contribution, the sophistication of Minoan houses was unmatched in the rest of Europe. They were made of brick, were often terraced, and were often multistory. While the wealthy had grander palaces, the average Joe still enjoyed comfortable housing. One interesting architectural innovation was the downward-tapering "Minoan column". These columns were made of wood and were usually painted red. The Minoans also built aqueducts, flushing toilets for the palaces, and impressive ports.

The Minoans had the first Citadels as well.

It is said that Minoan women held a unique position in society. This could well be true, and they were apparently given equal rights to men, and held positions of power in government, business and especially religion. This system of equality influenced nearby settlements and perhaps laid the foundation for societies to come.

Another Minoan contribution to the prehistoric world was art. They painted immaculate frescoes depicting everyday life. The Mycenaeans largely copied Minoan art, no doubt employing large numbers of Minoan artisans. Mycenaean works mainly depicted war, hunting, and other imagery displaying prehistoric Greek male dominance over the battlefield, and over nature.

  2. Minoan’s: They knew how to cultivate the soil, make fine pottery, and were capable of building stone houses, though they also still made use of caves for habitation and animals were kept for domestic use. They were known for their domination of the sea and crossroads between linking three continents; Asia, Africa, and Europe.

Mycenaean’s: They were much more warlike than other civilizations. They also created a new form of writing and culture. They had also built a strong fleet of ships able to capture trade roots and help establish flourishing colonies.

Phoenician’s: Their major contribution is obviously the alphabet. By far they were superior to all peoples of that time in seamanship. Phoenicia reached its height as a nation whose prime interests were trade, the arts, and religion. Organized into individual city-states, each Phoenician city was under its own form of government.

    1. The Phoenicians arrived in the region of Syria and Palestine from Crete. They came to prominence after the Minoans were subdued by Myceneans (1200 BC). Their alphabet is the same as Linear B that existed in Crete and the rest of Greece. They worshiped the same Gods. The Minoans were the first seafarers of the world. The Myceneans foolowed. Other seafarers were the Phaeacians 18th c.BC, the Mileseans 8th c. BC, the Foceans 8th c. BC, and the Phoenicians 6th c. BC.

  7. i agree with chico, because when i was watching the videos i thought that the minoans were pretty civilized. the volcano ruined their city, then they rebuilt it.

  8. I disagree with Chico because the Minoans didnt build walls around their city also they died out because of a volcanoe blow. So the Minoans couldn't have gotten back on their feet qickly.
